TEN people have died and three others have been injured in a road crash on Ome Bridge inbound Awa, Ijebu Ode, Obada Expressway, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State
The Ogun State Traffic and Emergency Compliance Agency confirmed the incident and said the accident involved a Mitsubishi bus with Registration number EJ829 LSR.
According to the spokesman of the Ogun state Traffic outfit, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident was a result of wrong overtaking as the vehicle veered into the bush and plunged into the river.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a wanted serial kidnapper and recovered weapons used in previous operations.
In a statement, the Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit apprehended Clement Elijah, an alleged felon who had been on the run since 2024 in connection with a high-profile kidnapping incident at Ajelanwa village in the state. Two of his accomplices were taken into custody at the time.
“Elijah arrived Ibiade community on June 13, 2025, planned to abduct a prominent individual in Ago Village, Abigi, but his sinister mission was thwarted through timely collaboration between the police and vigilant residents,” she said.
She said that following a clearance operation on June 16, 2025, the gang’s suspected armourer, Posi Friday, was apprehended with a pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, and eight live cartridges, cleverly concealed in a Boom Speaker were recovered.
The spokesperson said, “The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the proactive efforts of Ibiade and Abigi communities as he expressed deep appreciation for their sustained communication and support, which were pivotal in cracking the case.”
