FRESH violence has broken out in Adamawa State, with attacks reported in Lafiya and Boshikiri villages located in Lamurde and Guyuk Local Government Areas of the state.
The communal crisis, which has become a yearly occurrence during farming seasons in the two border LGs, has led to the destruction of property on Wednesday.
The Adamawa State Police Command, in a statement on Thursday, condemned the separate incidents, describing them as “mischief by fire.”
According to the statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, unidentified persons “set fire to thatched huts in Lafiya (Lamurde LGA) and Boshikiri village (Guyuk LGA). Properties belonging to Mrs. Ododumga Kenneth and Mr. Nura Haruna were destroyed in the attacks.”
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has ordered a discreet investigation and immediate deployment of police personnel to prevent further escalation and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
The CP warned that anyone found instigating violence or engaging in criminal acts will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
The command called on residents to remain calm, cooperate with the police, and report any suspicious movement and activities to enable the police to act immediately.
