A NIGHT fire gutted shops within a complex along Alakia Isebo Road late Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The fire affected five out of the 19 shops in the complex before men of the Oyo State Fire Service intervened and put it out.
The rescue effort led by firemen was coordinated by Adesina Olusoji after receiving a distress call at 11:22 pm on Tuesday.
The intervention made it possible to restrict the fire from spreading to unaffected nearby shops and properties.
In a situation report, the Oyo State Fire Service noted that the fire was completely extinguished and necessary salvage was done.
“The fire affected five (5) out of ten (10) shops and the Agency’s personnel were able to save properties worth of millions naira.
“The fire incident was traced to be an electric surge ignited nearby combustibles and set the shops ablaze.”
The Chairman of the fire agency in Oyo State, Moroof Akinwande, urged the public to always switch off and unplug all electrical appliances while not in use, particularly after the close of work to avoid fire outbreaks.
